  • The Beginning

The Liwu Jewellery Journey

Wexford jeweller - Aine Breen
  • An unexpected move

Áine moves to China

In 2011, Áine's introduction to meaningful symbols and
language began, when she moved from Ireland to China with her husband and discovered her creative side.

Eager to learn more about Chinese culture, Áine took a course in Chinese calligraphy. One of the first characters she found was love, which she discovered meant ‘life to the heart and grace to the body.’

  •  A career change

Áine returns to Ireland

Back home, Áine takes silversmithing classes and launches her first collection all based on Chinese calligraphy characters and their meanings.

As a qualified chartered accountant, Áine continued to work but also design and sell jewellery alongside raising her young family.

Celtic Culture and Symbols

Stockists who liked the designs and symbolism, began to ask about Celtic Symbols. This and of course her travels sparked a renewed interest in Ireland's culture which is deeply rooted in ancient Celtic culture and celtic symbols.

In 2017, the Celtic Symbol collection was launched.

A love of retail

Áine worked in retail from a young age and even as an accountant worked with Irish clothing and jewellery retailers. Her local town of Gorey, is busy and growing. Her studio and online store was busy and she always found lots of designers and brands when doing fairs and decided she would love a space where she could share Liwu Jewellery, alongside jewellery for all sorts of occasions.

And so, Lu & Mol on Esmonde Street, Gorey was opened.
